As I sought the Lord for this year, He spoke this key verse for us “The Lord God has given me the tongue of disciples, I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens me morning by morning. He awakens my ear to listen as a disciple.” -Isa. 50:4
Pass The Test and Be Promoted!
During this last year, there have been testings of our faith. We have seen the world as we have known it, change forever. The testings have shaken us, but we have come to realize that our trust must be in God. In a school classroom, a test is given to see if the information we have been taught has been retained. If it has, then we are promoted to the next grade level. The purpose of the test was not to torment us, but to see if we are ready for the next level of instruction. And, so it is in the classroom of the Holy Spirit. In some areas, we may be promoted to new levels of revelation and authority; in other areas we will retake the course.
Increase Our Faith By The Word!
As the Lord continued to speak to me about this, I knew that He was emphasizing discipleship and increasing the study of the Word. In the days to come, it will be imperative for every believer to know what the Word of God says and be able to stand upon it in faith. If our ears are awakened day by day, our hearts will be obedient.
How will this happen? We know that “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Therefore if we are studying the Word, our spiritual ears will be opened and our faith will come to new levels.
Let Go of The Old To Take Hold of The New!
We have found in 2008 that some of the things we have tried have not worked and are not bearing fruit. As well, some of the things that used to work for us are no longer working. This is where we must let go of the old in order to receive the new. We must repent of hard and unyielding places in our hearts and ask the Holy Spirit to show us where we have been blind. If we fail to do this, the pressure of the processing of the new wine will cause our old wineskin to burst. As we choose to repent and let go of our old ways, we will find ourselves very pregnant with the purposes of God.
Discipleship To Establish Us!
Similarly, the Lord spoke to me about the new wineskins He has been forming for 2009. Just as there is 9 months of pregnancy in which the baby is hidden and forming, the Word that is freshly implanted will form our future and cause it to grow towards its fulfillment.
It will be a year, for those who choose to be discipled, to receive a fresh impartation of the Spirit of revelation and wisdom. The spiritual growth that results will produce supernatural faith for the days ahead. This kind of faith will be the evidence, a living proof, that we have seen the unseen.
Having seen Him, we shall be more like Him in every way. The new wineskin will be those who carry His word and presence all the way to the completion of the process. “What is the process, you may ask? It is the crucified life, the way of the cross, the cost of discipleship. A dedicated mother who is pregnant, is committed to the life she carries and denies herself harmful food or habits. In the same way we must be committed to the Life within us.
My prayer for us is: Lord, make us disciples of Your Word this year. May we abide in it that You may abide in us in greater ways. May this be a year of awakening of our ears and a forming of great faith. May those who see us recognize You.
